Yes on Prop. 23!Fri, 28 Jan 2011 01:19:30 +0000enhourly1http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.4Op-ed: Employers exit as Sacramento fiddles
http://suspendab32.org/2011/01/op-ed-employers-exit-as-sacramento-fiddles/#commentsFri, 28 Jan 2011 01:19:30 +0000adminhttp://suspendab32.org/?p=883In another example of California being too “green” to be even hospitable to green jobs, San Jose based solar manufacturer Stion sent 1,000 jobs to Mississippi, which courted the company. Boeing also will be cutting California jobs by up to 1,100 at its Long Beach facility. That plant once employed 20,000 and now will employ just about 6,000. The author of this op-ed argues Sacramento politicians have failed to produce jobs and a healthy economy and have instead driven away entrepreneurs with their excessive taxes and regulations.

The trend reflects a longheld pride among the Japanese of their country’s industrial prowess and a celebration of blue-collar work. Unlike in California, where industry is derided as a “polluter,” in Japan progress is considered cool.

Quest cited the Emerald Isle’s business-friendly policies among the reasons for placing the new operation there. With California’s high-tax and overregulated business environment, Quest Software is yet another example of California companies that choose to expand elsewhere or relocate entirely.

The state’s new Governor, Susana Martinez, made ending economically harmful “green” regulations one of her first priorities in office so that she could get New Mexico back to work. AB 32 was promoted as a way for California to, “show leadership in the fight against global warming.” However, other states do not want to follow due to the plan’s prohibitive costs that kill jobs and hurt economic competitiveness.

In another example of PG&E’s lack of ethics, the company has now been called out by Representative Jackie Speier for spiking pressure on gas lines eleven times since 2003, effectively playing Russian roulette with the lives of those who live nearby. After a deadly explosion on PG&E’s San Bruno gas lines, the company’s practices are drawing greater scrutiny.

http://suspendab32.org/2011/01/blog-post-new-study-shows-electric-cars-will-be-uneconomical-in-california/#commentsSat, 15 Jan 2011 21:42:09 +0000adminhttp://suspendab32.org/?p=848AB 32 paradoxically attempts to raise energy costs while also promoting greater usage of electric cars, which must be plugged into the more expensive energy. In effect, AB 32 defeats its own goals by putting electric car ownership out of reach through higher utility costs. Researchers have released a new study detailing this illogical and self-defeating paradox by the unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats at the California Air Resources Board.

AB 32 was posited as an effort to “show leadership in the fight against global warming.” Before Governor Martinez’s decision to pull out New Mexico was the last state still on board to join in California in implementation of job-killing cap and trade energy taxes. Every state which has initially pledged to follow California’s “leadership” has now pulled out in light of the plan’s crippling costs.

Governor Schwarzenegger has made the questionable promise that CARB bureaucrats will be “sensitive, cautious and careful” in their implementation of the most draconian regulatory regime in state history. However, studies show cap and trade will result in steep energy cost increases at a time of record high unemployment, and state bureaucrats do not have a history of caution or sensitivity to business and jobs.

The Bee now acknowledges the economically harmful impacts cap and trade has had on the European countries that have tried it as well as the fact that the effort to “show leadership” has backfired, with other states pulling out of the Western States Climate Initiative. The Sacramento Bee vigorously opposed Prop. 23, so it is surprising that the paper is now advocating the same position it just worked to defeat.

In a hearing last Friday, business owners, scientists, and representatives of six Tea Party Patriot chapters strongly urged CARB to postpone its efforts to impose costs on small trucking and construction companies amounting to tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars per truck.
