Gabriel Calzada, the Spanish economist who authored the study showing Spain’s cap and trade killed over two traditional jobs for each “green” job created offers a warning to California not to follow in Spain’s footsteps. Spain was once the example used by cap and trade energy tax advocates of a model green economy, but Calzada’s study, which was later verified by the Spanish government, showed these types of taxes to be economically devastating. Of the green jobs created, 90% were temporary installation jobs. Calzada explains a system of cap and trade taxes damages the overall economy and essentally robs Peter to pay Paul, with Paul advocating for such a plan even to the detriment of the economy as a whole.
